Lifes Circumstances. I thought my life would be differant.

Standard

I know life isn’t a race but the last year or so I have been struggling with the knowledge that I graduated in 2006 (I will be 25 next month) and I haven’t done anything since I left school. Last year I quit my full time maccas job to move to Queensland (Not sure how much longer I could have stayed there anyway due to another trouble maker that was employed), in the hope of finding full time work here and have a change from the small town I lived in. I am currently working a casual position at Maccas but an average of 9 hours a week doesn’t really make it worth my while. My current lease ends at the start of April and unless a full time job or a job I really want comes up, I will probably head back to Victoria.

This is my 7th year out of school and I haven’t got anything to show for it. No job I really enjoy, no great savings account, no overseas holidays or any great life experiences. Although I don’t blame others for this, other people to an extent do play a part in how our lives has turn out. Like everyone I guess, I am a victim of ideas, circumstance and the economy. None the less we always learn from past experience.

I want to be able to buy a house and travel over seas, and not struggle for money when I am older. (Luckily I am of that generation that has had a superannuation account since my first job). Will any of this be possible in todays economy? Who knows. It’s not surprising many of gen Y still live at home with their parents.

Don’t get me wrong, I consider myself lucky that I have a roof over my head, food in the cupboard, access to doctors and family that have done SO much for me. Just, as a kid I always thought my life would be more than living week to week. Sometimes even struggling to do that. Although I’m not depressed, I hope that some point in the very near future I find something to make life more enjoyable and worthwhile. But a HUGE thankyou to my family and friends who continue to support me and make me laugh. If nothing else, at least I have them. ❤

Is anyone else floating through life in the same boat?

New Creative Venture…

Standard

So, now my blog is up and running my new creative venture is art / visual jouraling. Seeing how I love a scrap booking and writing anyways, it shouldn’t be too bad. Already had a spiral bound book and I bought some coloured pencils and gel pens yesterday. So let the fun begin. Creativity and inspiration come at me!

Sharing a little…

Standard

Hey all. How are we? Just thought I would share a little more of my life.
This is Kelly. We met while working at McDonalds in little old Bairnsdale, Victoria. It was one of those friendships where you just instantly get along and would do just about anything for each other. We became so close we now consider ourselves as sisters. She moved to Queensland a while back and had her little girl, (My God Daughter and niece) Hayley. I wanted a change from Bairnsdale and moved up here last year.

The first two photos were taken at Coomera park. This bottom one is what I came home to after work yesterday.

Two of the things I am enthusiastic about. Nature & Culture.

Standard

Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to write. Obviously without practice I  wont be good enough to publish but I never knew where to start, what to write about and besides a personal journal I thought writing a pointless venture if I didn’t have an audience. It’s a vicious cycle. As such this blog will most likely also serve as an outlet for this particular childhood dream. So this post is something that has always been and always will be, close to my heart. Nature and other cultures.

Ever since childhood, both my brother and myself have always had a fondness for animals. Whether they were living or extinct. Land, ocean or sky dwelling. Great or small. You name it, we were interested. As we got older, this fondness for animals grew into a love for all things nature!

Neither of us is a people person. The following I write from my heart, and although I know my brother does agree with much of my opinion, it is written to portray my thoughts, not a collective of us both.

Humans (as a collective race) have slowly progressed, bred and traveled / relocated to reach to the furthest and most remote regions of this lovely planet. Supposedly ‘civilised’ man have ever expanded on their metaphorical horizons, creating new technology to make our lives ‘easier’ and expanding the areas we inhabit to accommodate our growing population. In doing so, we ignorantly (past generations) and arrogantly slowly had a negative impact on this planet that we call home. This is part of the reason I’m not a people person. Is it not possible for progress to go too far and reach a tipping point?

Having said that, as well as having a love for anything nature, I also have a fascination for different cultures all around the world. From ancient civilisations to the remote peoples of small villages in the far reaches of a country and little for modern society. We can learn so much from the past, from understanding how others live and from sharing experiences. Apart from been a naturally curious and empathetic person, part of the reason I am fascinated with the past is because I think some values meant a lot more back then (and in places like remote villages today). People had to work hard or they didn’t eat. In some close knit communities family and neighbors relied upon each other, so no one was taken for granted . People placed less value on money and possessions. Honesty, integrity and ethics meant more.

Another larger part of the reason I am interested in the culture (although I am an atheist, I include religion in my interests) of others is because I believe understanding leads to compassion and a better perspective on life and others. This in turn leading to an open mind, inclusion of others and the understanding that we are all same. Skin colour, beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and more at the end of the day don’t mean anything. We all have to live on this beautiful planet that we call home. Writing this brings to mind Guy Sebastian’s song, Get Along.

So lets all do our little bit to preserve it for generations to come!

I apologise if this sounds like a lecture. I don’t intend it to. I am only trying to share a little about myself and at the same time use writing as an honest way to express myself. (Don’t forget I am new to blogging) However if this inspires even just one reader to do their bit for the environment or just to tell a loved one just how much they mean to you, then I will be completely over the moon.

No matter how many times I listen to this song it still “tugs at the heart strings” as they say.

Like sand through the hour glass…

Standard

Gone are the days where we sleep when we are tired, eat when we are hungry and don’t live our lives according to the day of the week or the hands of the clock.

If we start work at 8am and finish at 4pm we head home to have dinner around 7 in time for bed so we have plenty of sleep to rise at 6 or 7am the next day only to do it all over again.

To an extent I am a routine person but I am beginning to resent that loss of freedom to eat according to my stomach and sleep according to my body. And yet in todays society, if we wish to save the money and buy a house to set ourselves up we don’t have a great deal of option.

Todays society and living in the 21st century costs more than just money.

For anyone interested, this is the book that recently got me thinking. This book as well as watching my nearly 2 year old niece, who needless to say, is completely heedless to concept of time.
